Gisele Bundchen, Ursula Andress and nameless nudes - Black and white studies. - Sold out
A style I won't paint anymore. When I first arrived in London in 2004, I experimented with various styles. Figurative Pop Art was one of them. However this style has evolved into painting an airbrushed Pop Art portrait for the UK New Zealander of the Year

SOLD
I copied this image from Boris, Vallejo. I painted it one for pure practice to test myself as one day I would love to master his skill, and two because I love the story of Medusa.
Born in the year of the fire snake I'm drawn to Medusa and always have been. I feel every woman has a little of Medusa in her both as beauty and rage. I love her story of love and hope. There are many stories about Medusa. Some I relate to more than others. She's an alter ego of the past. A mythical sensual saddened creature, a brilliant artist with her tapestries expressing her life filled with gold and dark threads . A victim? A villain? None the less a once captivating beautiful creature full of magic and power. A once sweet young girl years later her bitterness feeding her power to turn men to stone for unwanted attention and lost love. Unfortunately she became bitter until Darius befriended her sparing his life. I've been wanting to paint her for years.

I like to paint a series of 3 images for continuity. In the past I have painted “Gisele Bundchen Black Coat in New York” & “New York Balcony”. “Red Shoes” is to continue the urban theme. The red lips and shoes idea were from a passer by at one of my Chelsea exhibitions last year. I thought I would experiment with a touch of colour to brighten up the images.

Venice Carnival Although they can be traced back to pagan times, carnivals as we know them began in Europe with the rise of Christianity as a pre-lent festival. By the mid 17th Century the Venice Carnival had become the most famous throughout Europe, encouraged, doubtless, as a means of distracting the populace from the hardships they were normally asked to endure.
A time for all class barriers to come down, the carnival was a mixture of drinking, public insults, street theatre, more drinking and masked balls. With the rich and powerful mixing so closely with the lower classes, the use of masks was of the greatest importance to keep peoples identities unknown.
The most common was the Bauta, a half mask worn with black cape and black tricorn hat or, for the rowdier members of society, Punchinella masks and hats (the masks and outrageous behaviour coming directly from the Commedia Dell'arte). The first of these two disguises was popular due to it being available to only the most wealthy, outside carnival period - the second's popularity coming from the associated vulgarity and wildness that Punchinella troupes would be allowed to display. Indeed the roguish Casanova is known to have fallen in with a theatre troupe and indulged in the most outlandish and dangerous pranks of his day. He also, as one would expect, took full advantage of the Bauta mask to help in his many nocturnal liaisons.
The balls would take place in the various Venetian piazzas and would involve meals of imported delicacies, dancing and entertainment by jugglers, acrobats, etc. as well a feats of strength or daring, performed by young men, and usually resulting in being plunged into the freezing waters of the canal.

SOLD
For years Fantasy Art has been my first love. I would spend hours drawing/perfecting the muscular form of the idealised perfect body. In my eyes, no-one other than the masters has managed to achieve the realistic human form with the use of colour like Boris Vallejo, my all time favourite artist. I have followed his works for years. I have copied this image from Boris, originally called “Full Moon” this has to be my favourite image of all time. This is the 3rd time I have painted this image. Each time is out of pure practice to test myself as one day I would love to master his skill.
My perception of this image is when you look at, to be mesmerised in a passionate moment of love. To make you feel. To think back to your own moment when you have been lost in the throws of passion. To me, I love this man because he is a powerful creature, capable of unworldly acts with a darker side, yet with her is so soft. She is completely at his peril, naked, vulnerable and out of her comfort zone, but when she is with him he is her world.
I want you to stare at this image and make you forget everything in your daily life and take you back in your memory to this moment, your moment and make you sigh and smile thinking of once upon a time.

Every mans Fantasy woman, Ursula Andress is one of the all time classic beauty’s to grace the big screen in the 1962 iconic 007 Bond Film “Dr No”. I love James Bond’s simplistic arrogance and chauvinism. I love painting Ursula Andress, a beautiful image from the simple 60’s. She’s a true classic beauty that rivalled Raquel Welsh as sexiest bikini babe of the 60’s. Unlike the Baywatch Bimbo’s of our generation, those two could actually act and had an alluring air of sophistication. – The kind of women distinguished men want by their side at Monte Carlo/Monaco

Pop Art was not a style I used before 2 years ago, preferring the challenge of creating photo-real paintings, however the Pop Art Portraits seem to have proved to be quite popular. This image was painted of a commercial nature as I feel a beautiful woman on the wall of someone’s home will always look good.
Originally I painted this image in teals to tie in all the colours of my lounge, and decided to paint it again in a neutral colour palette more suitable to the furnishings on the market

I wanted to paint a series of 3 of these pop art women. The first 2 were quite sombre so for this one I wanted to replicate fun and laughter. I had many friends coming to visit from NZ so at the time this was how life was (and is) The red is a family colour and is used in our family business. Whenever I see red I think of my Father and the Pope Packaging Empire.

For the few years that life kept throwing curveballs, I have always had a dream, a determination, a passion and a drive.
Continuously placing one foot in front of the other I have always believed that if I dreamed a dream and worked hard enough then one day just maybe all my dreams would come true.
I want to show a message to all the kiwis back home to dream a dream and follow your heart. They really do come true, and to everyone who knocks you down along the way...Forget them, they are just into different things to you. If anything... That should drive you even harder to follow your heart.

I love painting women. I love painting their faces, their curves.
In my mind, there is no more beautiful image to paint than a symmetrical youthful face.
The style of this image is based from the line drawings from fashion patterns with graphic felts from the books my mother had as a dressmaker, and iconic pop culture American artist Roy Lichtenstein – A favourite in my youth.
This painting was donated to Natalie Murphy to raise money for her Breast Cancer Treatment. To help Natalie, Email: nataliemurphy@clear.net.nz, or donations can be made to Natalie F Murphy BNZ 02-0238-0116716-97
