Root Chakra - Muladhara

Base of the spine. (Red)
Emotional Issues: Survival Issues such as financial independence, money and food.
It represents our foundation and feeling of being grounded. The root chakra is the first chakra in the body’s chakra system. This chakra has an earth energy, and it’s associated with the feeling of grounding and safety. It can be found at the base of the chakra system, and it lays the foundation for expansion in your life. The root chakra is sometimes known as Muladhara chakra because of its feminine energy. Muladhara chakra is the first of the seven chakras. It governs the functioning of the lower part of the body, including the lower back, lower spine, kidneys, and bladder.
Psychologically, it rules your survival instincts and your sense of confidence. It helps you choose whether to fight or step back. The root chakra is associated with the physical body and its connection to the Earth. Just like a foundation, it gives much importance to the basics of survival, such as food, shelter, safety, and a sense of comfort and belonging.
On a spiritual level, red colour chakra inspires energy and passion, movement, and change.
Red is an action colour. It moves, rouses, and guides you towards change. It’s the colour of progress, movement, and revolution. It fills you with daring and courage, but also with love.
Its energy inspires you to strengthen your commitments, as well as to trust in people and what the universe has in store for you. But there are also challenges when it comes to red colour chakra energy. It makes you stubborn and unwilling to change or expand your point of view.
This colour commands attention, and people are drawn to it because it’s ambitious and practical.
Red root chakra colour energy gives you concentration and clear thinking. It helps you set goals and prioritize them, and it gives support so that you can overcome your challenges.
When there’s too little red chakra energy in your life, it causes poor focus. It also causes you to become disorganized. It often results in pessimism and narrow thinking.
No discussion of red colour chakra would be complete without talking about its energy to attract abundance, prosperity, and financial health. It’s the main color for prosperity and manifestation, after all.
If you feel like you need a salary raise, or if you want to be more financially independent, bring more red in your life to increase your prosperity!

Sacral Chakra - Swadhisthana
Fluid Acrylic and spin on canvas
60cm diameter
2018
Just below the navel in the lower abdomen. (Orange)
Emotional Issues: Sense of abundance, well being, pleasure and sexuality. Our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences.
The sacral chakra is the second chakra in your body’s chakra system. It’s associated with your emotional body, creativity, and sensuality. The sacral chakra’s energy is characterized by flexibility and flow. Its function is guided by the principle of pleasure. This chakra is also known as Swadhisthana in Sanskrit. It’s the chakra that’s closely associated with emotional responses and often described as the seat of emotions. It’s also connected with the sense of taste and with the reproductive functions.
The sacral chakra lets you creatively deal with what comes out of your experiences and develop a response that’s influenced by your intelligence and emotional patterns. Because of the sacral chakra’s close physical connection with the pelvis and the reproductive organs, this chakra is also the center of your discovery for pleasure, whether through sensual pleasure or your daily life experiences. An abundant creativity and strong intuition are just two of the wonderful gifts that this chakra can bestow on you. The sacral chakra’s motto is to enjoy life fully. An open and balanced chakra will allow you to experience intimacy and love fully and freely. It will encourage you to be honest and non-judgmental about your desires, and to live your life as authentically as possible.
When there is an open and balanced sacral chakra, the relationship that you have with other people and with the world is centered around a harmonious, pleasing, and nurturing exchange.
A blockage or excess in this chakra can manifest as dependency or co-dependency with people or things that give you effortless access to pleasure. When you’re ruled by your emotions or feel out of touch with yourself and your emotions, you have an imbalance in your sacral chakra. You will feel numb and out of touch, or you will overindulge in your sexual obsessions and fantasies.
You will also experience extremes by lacking sexual desire or satisfaction. You will also be stuck feeling a specific kind of mood. You may be experiencing problems that have to do with unhealthy relationships or unhealthy addictions. The key to restoring balance to this chakra is to familiarize yourself with the symptoms of an overactive sacral chakra.
When you recognize and comprehend the issues, you will also learn how to balance the overabundance of your sacral chakra energy.

Throat Chakra -Vishuddha
Fluid Acrylic and spin on canvas
60cm diameter
2018

Base of the throat. (Blue/Aquamarine)
Our ability to communicate
Emotional Issues: Communication, self expression of feelings and the truth.
The throat chakra is found at the center of the neck on the throat level.
It is the fifth chakra and the passageway for energy between the head and the lower parts of the body. The throat chakra’s function is guided by the principle of communication and expression.
This chakra is also known as Vishuddha, KanthPadma, or ShodashDala. But the most common Sanskrit name for it is Vishudda, meaning pure or purification.
It represents expression and your ability to speak out and express your truth.
It signifies both verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as internal and external communication. The throat chakra connects with the etheric realm, as well as the subtle realms of your intuitive abilities and your spirit. The throat chakra helps you realize your purpose or your vocation, and it makes sure that you have a good sense of timing. This chakra is all about expressing yourself. It fills you with the truth, with your purpose in life, and with an abundant source of creativity. You must remember that this chakra has a natural connection with the sacral chakra, which is the centre of your emotions and creativity. This chakra’s emphasis is on expressing and projecting your creativity to the world according to your perfect form and authenticity.
The throat chakra connects you to your spirit. Because of where it is located, the throat chakra is also often seen as the bottleneck when it comes to energy movement in the body. This is why you feel your throat constrict when you become emotional, or you feel a lump in your throat when you hold back your tears. This is where your voice resonates to express your thoughts and emotions. The common physical symptoms of an overactive throat chakra include mouth and jaw problems, colds, and sore throat. It also manifests as earaches, neck pain, and laryngitis.
When you have a balanced throat chakra, it promotes concise and clear communication. You have no problems expressing yourself, and you find it easy being honest no matter what company and situation you’re in. But when the throat chakra becomes overactive, the total opposite happens.
You cannot help but speak rudely and maliciously. You look down on other people and become very critical of even the smallest details. When you can freely express your artistry, creativity, and imagination, and you also feel content with how your life is going, you have harmony and balance in your throat chakra.

Crown Chakra -Sahasrara

2018

Top of the Head (Violet)
The highest chakra represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually.
Emotional Issues: Inner and outer beauty, our connection to spirituality and pure bliss.
The crown chakra is located at the top of the chakra ladder which starts from the base chakra.
It’s the seventh chakra that connects you to the universe, as well as to the divine source of creation.
You will receive many gifts from the crown chakra, including the experience of unity and the unselfish realization that everything in this world is connected or linked to everything at a fundamental level. The energy of the crown chakra allows you to experience mystical oneness with everything and everyone. Although there is no intellectual knowing at this chakra’s level, there is peace, joy, and happiness. This chakra gives you a sense of knowing that there is a bigger and deeper meaning in life, and that there is an order that governs all of existence.
When it comes to the crown chakra, it is important to go beyond the limits of your own pride or ego. You must transcend the ego and accept that all creation is interconnected at a fundamental level. This interconnectedness is known as Akasha, or Zero Point Field.
It receives energies to sustain life, and it gives back personal energies to band together with the collective pool of consciousness. It is the meeting point between the body and the ego, and between the universe and the soul. It is the place where time and timelessness cross, and where death and eternal life intersect. The crown chakra gives importance to an attitude of gratitude for life. When you truly understand that everything is interconnected, and that everything is part of a larger scheme, you will also start living in gratitude, trust, and faith instead of anxiety and fear.
You will be guided by a higher power, and you will experience divinity from inside and out.
The challenge of the crown chakra is liberating the spirit and opening to the divine, at the same time staying firmly rooted to the ground. But in essence, the crown chakra focuses on being of service to others, sticking to your values, observing high ethics, being a humanitarian, and being sensitive to the environment.
The crown chakra colour is violet (a very spiritual colour), which is the colour of your connection with the energies of heaven. It’s a testament that there is tranquillity and peace in the knowledge of reflective change. The colour violet is also very cleansing and purifying. It’s the colour of magic, mysticism, mystery, connection, purification, cleansing, and ritual.

Twin Flame

There tends to be a lot of confusion about what a “twin flame” relationship really is. Unlike “soul mates,” which are our perfect matches (or our spiritual family) twin flames are our perfect mirrors. Relationships with twin flames tend to be on-again-off-again, intensely passionate, and sometimes intensely painful. Twin flames help us awaken like nobody else, and they ultimately serve to show us who we really are. Here, a few of the main signs that you’ve run into one:
1. You are intensely drawn to them. Without any real cause or reason, you feel as though you’ve known this person before, even if you just met.
2. They have opened you up to a completely new way of thinking. With them, you exchange ideas, beliefs, religion, and so on. You’ve “awakened” because of their love.
3. They come in and out of your life. You’re together, and then you’re not, and then you are again. Despite the fact that you love each other more than anything, one of you (the “runner”) seems to not be able to handle it, and dissolve the relationship. It’s almost as though your connection is too intense for you to be consistently together.
4. They feel like home. Upon meeting them, you immediately sense that you’ve known this person before. Your connection is too intense for you to have just been strangers – there is a deep feeling of familiarity when you’re with them.
5. You are the epitome of yin and yang. They seem just like your other half, the parts of you that were missing all along. (What you’ve yet to realize is that they are the parts of you you’ve yet to know.)
6. Looking back, you see that the period of time right after you’re with them is always defined by change. They bring about a lot of intense transformation in your life, sometimes painfully so.
7. You will find yourself becoming almost irrationally emotional when you’re with them. (These are the feelings and energies that have been in suppression, which they are there in part to help you recognize and heal.)
8. Your bond is instantaneous, and your relationship moves very quickly. Right off the bat, you “click” as though you’ve known one another forever. This only grows over time, and the more you get to know about them, the more absolutely in love you are.
9. Though you experience incredible passion for this person, there is an equal amount of worry and uncertainty. You may find yourself questioning a lot, asking yourself whether or not this is really love, or really what you want for your life.
10. It seems like you have this profound connection that must be destined, but you come into one another’s life at the wrong time, or something else stands in the way of you being together. This is not a product of ill fate, rather, it is a sign that you’re not meant to be together in the way you think you should. (The right thing at the wrong time is the wrong thing.
11. You are more than just lovers. You are one another’s teachers, best friends, therapists, and so on. You have such a deep and layered connection that you do a lot more for one another than just be romantic.
12. It seems like you’re always pulled back to them in one way or another.
13. Your relationship can be tumultuous at times. This is because your twin flame serves to show you everything that needs to be healed within you. This is not to be confused with “love” being painful. Love is not painful. Everything that stands in the way can be, though.
14. One of you is more “spiritual” than the other. One is more soulful, the other more practical. You teach one another the virtues of how you think and behave – that is part of your purpose.
15. You feel very attuned to them, almost telepathically. You can feel what they’re feeling, or know what they’re thinking. It’s as though you are one.

Chakra Wheel

Chakra means 'wheel' in Sanskrit. A chakra is an area in the body connected with life energy. There are seven chakras in the body - each is an interface for the flow of life energy. A chakra vitalizes a physical body and is associated with interactions of a physical or mental nature. Current science is not able to detect or measure chakras.
The seven main chakras are described as being present in an ascending column from the base of the spine to the head. The chakras are usually connected with a certain colour. Each chakra is also connected with some part of consciousness.
The following seven primary chakras are commonly described:
Muladhara (Sanskrit: Mūlādhāra, Base or Root Chakra (ovaries/prostate)
Swadhisthana (Sanskrit: Svādhiṣṭhāna, Sacral Chakra (last bone in spinal cord, the coccyx)
Manipura (Sanskrit: Maṇipūra, Solar Plexus Chakra (navel area)
Anahata (Sanskrit: Anāhata, Heart Chakra (heart area)
Vishuddha (Sanskrit: Viśuddha, Throat Chakra (throat and neck area)
Ajna (Sanskrit: Ājñā, Brow or Third Eye Chakra (pineal gland or third eye)
Sahasrara (Sanskrit: Sahasrāra, Thai: Crown Chakra (top of the head; 'soft spot' of a newborn)
Each chakra is associated with a certain part of the body and a certain organ which it provides with the energy it needs to function. Additionally, just as every organ in the human body has its equivalent on the mental and spiritual level, so too every chakra corresponds to a specific aspect of human behavior and development. Our circular spirals of energy differ in size and activity from person to person. They vibrate at different levels relative to the awareness of the individual and their ability to integrate the characteristics of each into their life.
The openness and flow of energy through our chakras determines our state of health and balance. Knowledge of our more subtle energy system empowers us to maintain balance and harmony on the physical, mental and spiritual level. All meditation and yoga systems seek to balance out the energy of the chakras by purifying the lower energies and guiding them upwards. Through the use of grounding, creating “internal space,” and living consciously with an awareness of how we acquire and spend our energy we become capable of balancing our life force with our mental, physical and spiritual selves.

If you stand looking out across the vast crater that is Lake Taupo in the centre of New Zealand's North Island, you can see three active volcanoes; Mounts Ruapehu, Tongariro, and Ngauruhoe.
This is the southern tip of the Pacific Rim of Fire – the arc of active volcanoes circling the Pacific Ocean. It is a trail taken by many others over past centuries, including the familiar names of George Bernard Shaw, Zane Grey, Mark Twain and Eleanor Roosevelt.
I often worry about the Tectonic plates surrounding the ring of fire. I felt compelled to create a Ring of Fire Series in June 2010, completing them all by August 2010. I do feel like NZ is sitting on a Volcanic time bomb and I do worry about Volcanic eruptions, a Tsunami in Auckland, and Earthquakes further South. I find it disturbing a month later the CHCH Earthquakes happened followed by Japan and as I watch the news, more counties from my series are affected. The plates are rumbling and we need to be ready.

The Pacific Ring of Fire is a region that surrounds the Earth's Pacific Ocean, and is known for its volcanoes and earthquake activity. The Ring of Fire has a total of 452 volcanoes, and has 75% of the Earth's active and dormant volcanoes. The whole Ring of Fire stretches for 40,000 km in length.
The Ring of Fire is created by the Earth's plate tectonics. The Earth's crust is broken up into plates which float on top of the mantle. When these plates come together, you can get volcanoes and earthquakes. The eastern side of the Ring of Fire has the Nazca Plate and the Cocos Plate being subducted (going underneath) the South American Plate. And in the North, the Pacific Plate and the Juan de Fuca Plate are being subducted underneath the North American Plate. The Pacific plate is also subducting underneath the Kamchatka Peninsula and Japan.Because of all this subduction, there are many cracks in the Earth's crust where magma can reach the surface and erupt as volcanoes. There are volcanoes in Chile, Mexico, the United States, Canada, Russia, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand and Antarctica.
Some of the most famous volcanoes on Earth are in the Ring of Fire. Mount St. Helens, which erupted in 1980 is a good example, or Mount Rainier in Washington State, or Mount Shasta in California. The recent eruption of Mount Redoubt in Alaska is part of the Ring of Fire. And so are Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines and Mount Fuji in Japan.
The Ring of Fire has produced more than just volcanoes. It has also created islands and mountain chains around the Pacific Ocean. The Aleutian Islands in Alaska are all volcanic, and Japan is part of the subduction of the Pacific Plate going underneath the Eurasian Plate.
I personally live in the Ring of Fire, so I'm aware that there are dangers to living in this part of the world. There can be powerful earthquakes, huge tsunami, and new volcanic eruptions. Every year the Ring of Fire volcanoes demonstrate just how active they still are.

The countries in the Ring of Fire are: Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Japan, Kiribati, Malaysia, Mexico, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nicaragua, North Korea, Palau, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Korea, Tavalu, Taiwan, Thailand, Tonga, United States of America, Vanuatu, Vietnam.
Indonesia:
The volcanoes in Indonesia are among the most active within the Pacific Ring of Fire.
Mount Tambora erupted violently in 1815 and caused widespread harvest failure in Northern Europe, North Eastern America, and Eastern Canada during 1816. This year became known as ‘the year without a summer’.
The most active volcanoes are Kelud and Merapi on Java Island which have erupted more than 100 times since AD 1000.
In December 2004 a massive undersea earthquake near north Indonesia generated the biggest tsunami that the world had seen for 40 years.
This tsunami spread across the Indian Ocean at high speed and hit many Asian countries including India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia.
The tsunami killed more than 200,000 people in 13 countries. At least 128,000 people died in Indonesia alone.

Inspired by a broken heart and a need to sink myself deep into a project. “Phoenix” best describes my actions and emotions over the last 4 months. 6 months prior I fell in love with Brian and still am to this day (not that he knows that) however his heart was never ready to give to me anyway. Phoenix is about rising from the ashes, soaring with the eagles and my relentless determination to succeed. My heart will mend and I will just paint more, this circumstance has given me even more determination to do so.
However on the plus side, my need for a distraction pushed me into 15-17hour days/7 days a week resulting in 2 successful Chelsea Art Exhibitions and the completion of 57 paintings in 4 short months, so sinking myself into these projects has been the best thing for me. Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, new beginnings for me…..I still have a broken heart to mend, but I’ll just paint more. I’ll leave a piece of my heart with Brian and make sure my heart grows that much bigger for the next one to cross my path. In the meantime I will soar with the eagles with the success of all my paintings towards achieving my dreams. The colours represent my fury and passion which are delivered with explosive emotion. I decided to release and channel this emotion into my artwork, although I do shed a tear from time to time. I am guttered and I miss him, but I it spurred me to relentlessly pursue my passion into overdrive.

Everyone has a limit and I reached mine. 6 1/2 years of shared house London living has taken it’s toll. My tolerance level has finally red lined.
When close to 300 antipodeans have passed through the Palace doors over 6 ½ years, many whom aren’t house proud treat it as a hotel, use, abuse and leave me with a broken down house it absolutely breaks my heart.
We have all had fun, but I don’t think anyone actually realises the impact that so many people has on me. I feel like I scream on the inside by no one hears me. Time for a change.

My latest exhibition which was held in Cork Street was my largest show of works to date, other than my solo in Dubai. My mum flew all the way from New Zealand especially for the show. As mum was in the forefront of my thoughts, I found her influence coming through in my latest spin paintings with her favourite colours. In the 80’s Mum played tennis on a fairly competitive level. Every outfit matched, embellished with sequins and embroidered appliqué. Flowers and frills on her tennis pants, tops, skirts and shell suits. She had to be the most glamorous player on the court. I couldn’t help but think of mum and my childhood in the 80’s as I created this piece.

Trying to run to an end destination through a muddy swampland. Your head, hands and body are racing but your legs are dragging in the mud. This is how I feel at the moment. I can see the end goal and I am racing ahead to get there, but I am learning the boring lesson of patience. Trying to get ahead but am blocked by certain situations money or time. With built up frustration over the years of confined space when I need to be free, my actions have been erratic and explosive. The last few months have been interesting, but I will try hard not to be so silent again, as in the long run it does me or others no favours and makes me withdraw further and further into my shell when I should be doing the complete opposite and expressing my emotions, painting unrestricted and flying with the eagles. However, on the plus side – since I have decided to express my emotions into artwork more freely ,exposing my thoughts to the world the explosive creative energy has created some fabulous results.

I feel like Cinderella having been sprinkled in faerie dust at the moment. To have my mum join me and become part of my Cork Street Solo Exhibition is a priceless experience. I am so grateful to Janelle for helping me organise various things for my show.
I have been very blessed lately, it has been a pleasure to meet Janelle and slowly get to know the wonderful person she is. I have only touched the surface. Thank you for everything. Hope to see you again one day

Jaffa

Jafa is a slang term (usually offensive) for a resident of Auckland, New Zealand. It is the acronym for Just Another Fucking Aucklander. This prejudice against Aucklander’s started to appear within the last four decades and is considered to be representative of the boorishness of Aucklander’s, or the envy of the rest of New Zealand, depending on the perspective. The word Jafa often conveys dislike for Aucklander’s. While only a small part of New Zealand geographically, Auckland makes up more than a quarter of the population of New Zealand, and has greater economic power (mainly through the centralisation of many companies) than its simple population share would indicate. Auckland thus has a dominant voice in many aspects of New Zealand society, only somewhat tempered by the fact that it is not the capital. Aucklanders thus are of the opinion that "Jafa" indicates frustration in the users.
I am proud to be a Jaffa!
Jaffa’s are also a chocolate lollie/sweet covered with in a hard orange flavoured shell. A classic kiwi icon.

The movie the Notebook has a scene whereby Noah remembers Ali wishing to have a “big ole white house with blue shutters, a porch wrapped right the front and a room she can paint in overlooking the lake. In the 7 years of absence while they grow and do different things in life before coming back together again, Noah builds this house to Ali’s dream secretly knowing that one day she will return to him.
I have a dream to paint on the beach overlooking the ocean in a Tuscan styled Italian home in Europe either in Croatia or Southern Italy. I long for this day and work hard a little bit each day to achieve it.
Everyone has a dream, and this has been one of mine since I was around 13, wanting to paint all day since the age of 5.
For me my dreams do come true. I do escape to my fantasy world, but they pretty much always come true in the end if I am patient enough and work hard enough to make sure it happens.
