2012 (June/July) BT Art Box (Big Ben) – 25th Anniversary Childline

A British design classic, made over by top creative talent and given to London’s streets this summer.  BT ArtBox is a celebration of all that is great about Britain.  Take the world renowned Gilbert Scott Kiosk: a symbol of bold and democratic design. Give it to top artists, fashion and graphic designers. Have them give it a make over. Then bring it to London in the summer of the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games.

Big Ben BT Art Box:

It’s the first sight she shows to friends and family, timing walks along the Southbank to coincide with the iconic chimes. With 2012 being the year of the Olympics and the Queens Jubilee, this year will see more tourism than ever to our beautiful City. And so, what better way to celebrate, than to transform the beloved telephone box into another of London’s icons? So, in keeping with the 2012 British theme, Mandii is creating the Big Ben BT ArtBox with special thanks to 3D-Eye/SML.

Interesting Fact: The times on the clocks read 08:00 and 11:11, representing ChildLine’s telephone number  0800 1111.  The Big Ben BT Artbox characters are either Royalty, Olympians or inspirational personalities. The people waving out the windows are a collaborative collection of suggestions from people who have crossed her path.  Some personalities featuring in the windows include suggestions from the youth from ChildLine requesting Esther Rantzen founder of ChildLine, self made David Beckham, creative inspiration Lady Gaga & fighter for success Jessie J.  The front has the Queen, Will & Kate up the top windows.  Seb Coe, Kelly Holmes and Daley Thompson on the bottom windows representing Britain,   On another side is Brit Diver Tom Daley, South African Blade Runner Oscar Pistorious, Italian Fencer Andrea Cassara, Italian Boxer Giovanni Parisi, Irish Boxer Katie Taylor, Brit Lewis Hamilton, Bagpuss from the London Marathon, Fulham/England Manager Roy Hodgson, Australian Rolf Harris, David Attenborough and Jim Henson.  Representing New Zealand is philanthropist Owen Glenn, NZ Olympians Mahe Drysdale, Georgina & Caroline Evers-Swindell, Valerie Adams, Nathan Twaddle, Sarah Ulmer and Nick Willis and some inspiring members of the Artists family.
